Roger Federer Retires From Tennis

Roger Federer’s career comes to an end, announces his retirement from Tennis. He has won 20 Grand Slam titles and completed 5 straight seasons ranked No. 1.

Roger Federer was born on 8 August 1981. He was ranked No. 1 in the world by ATP for 310 weeks, including his record of 237 consecutive weeks.

His Records

He is the first player to have reached 10 consecutive Grand Slam tournament finals. He has earned 2 gold medals, and a silver medal at the Olympics in 2008 and 2012, respectively.

He also holds the record for the most titles (6) at the year-end championships. Federer was ranked among the top 8 players in the world continuously for 14 years and two weeks.

Federer’s all time long agent Tony Godsick told The Associated Press that Federer had been having issues in his latest recovery from knee surgery.

“He informed few weeks after Wimbledon that his knee was not acting as usual and that he was thinking to end his career,” Godsick said in an interview.

“I suggested him years ago that he should retire. Not many players at his level push into their 40s. But he always likes to challenge himself.”

Federer’s has won 20 Grand Slam titles in his career which rank 3rd in all time men’s players behind only Djokovic who has won 21 and Nadal who has won 22 titles.

Oldest No. 1 in ATP Ranking History

Federer concludes his career with an impressive record of 103 tour-level titles and 1,251 victories in singles matches. Notably, he holds the distinction of being the oldest player to attain the No. 1 spot in ATP rankings history.

Federer has unrivaled records in the game including 10 consecutive Grand Slam finals, winning eight of them, from 2005 to 2007.

Federer has won 8 championships at Wimbledon, 6 at the Australian Open, 5 at the US Open and 1 at the French Open.

“I was lucky to play so many great matches that I will never forget,” Federer said in an announcement.
